Melonex Supplement Facts: What the Label Says, Line by Line

Quick answer

The Melonex supplement facts panel lists a serving of 1 capsule, 60 servings per bottle and one weight: a 500 mg proprietary blend of L-citrulline DL-malate, L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate and L-arginine HCl. The amount of each is not printed, and no Daily Value is set. No trial has tested the capsule.

What are the Melonex supplement facts?

The Melonex supplement facts name a serving of 1 capsule, 60 servings per container and a single 500 mg proprietary blend with three ingredients.

Let's read the bottle together, the way we would at the pharmacy counter. The panel is short, and that is the first thing to notice.

One capsule is one serving. A bottle holds 60 of them, so a bottle is two months at one capsule a day. The only weight printed is 500 mg for the whole blend. The Daily Value column says "not established," marked with a dagger.

Under the blend, three names appear in a fixed order: L-citrulline DL-malate, L-arginine (alpha-ketoglutarate dihydrate) and L-arginine HCL. No milligrams sit beside any of them.

What does the Melonex label say, word for word?

The Melonex label has a front panel, the Supplement Facts box, directions, storage and caution text, an FDA statement and a distributor line.

Below is the flat label. The panel is typed out above and the directions are quoted further down, so you can check any line against the bottle in your hand.

The front carries the word Melonex, "ADVANCED SUPPORT," and the words "60 CAPSULES" and "DIETARY SUPPLEMENT." The back panels hold everything else.

No. 03Blend math

How much of each ingredient is in a Melonex capsule?

The label does not say, but the order of the names sets a ceiling: at most 500 mg of the first, 250 mg of the second and 167 mg of the third per capsule.

A proprietary blend may hide the single amounts. Federal rules let a maker print only the blend total, as long as the names run from the most to the least by weight (21 CFR 101.36).

That order is the clue. The first name can be at most 500 mg. The second cannot be more than half of 500, and the third cannot be more than a third. Split three ways evenly, that is about 167 mg each.

These are weights of the salt forms, not of the free amino acid. Citrulline malate, for one, is about 57 percent citrulline by weight (NIH ODS, arginine and citrulline). So the real citrulline is less than the number on the bar.

  • L-Citrulline DL-Malate

Even 2 capsules reach at most 33% of the lowest trial dose
    1 capsule, even split167 mg
    1 capsule, label-order ceiling (place 1)500 mg
2 capsules (label max), ceiling1,000 mg
    3-9 g a day of L-citrulline (8 trials)3-9 g

Not printed: #1 of 3 in a 500 mg blend. The weight is the salt form, so the free amino acid is less. (Barkhidarian 2019, citrulline and BP) (21 CFR 101.36)

  • L-Arginine AKG

Even 2 capsules reach at most 12% of the lowest trial dose
    1 capsule, even split167 mg
    1 capsule, label-order ceiling (place 2)250 mg

Not printed: #2 of 3 in a 500 mg blend. The weight is the salt form, so the free amino acid is less. (Dong 2011, arginine and BP) (21 CFR 101.36)

  • L-Arginine HCl

Even 2 capsules reach at most 8% of the lowest trial dose
    1 capsule, even split167 mg
    1 capsule, label-order ceiling (place 3)167 mg
2 capsules (label max), ceiling333 mg
    4-24 g a day of L-arginine (11 trials)4-24 g

Not printed: #3 of 3 in a 500 mg blend. The weight is the salt form, so the free amino acid is less. (Dong 2011, arginine and BP) (21 CFR 101.36)

Burgundy bars: what capsules can hold, on one scale with the trial doses. The label prints only the 500 mg total, so we show an even split (about 167 mg each) and the most the label order allows (500, 250 and 167 mg; double at 2 capsules). Green bars: daily grams of the amino acid alone in blood pressure trials; the pale extension shows the range. No trial tested Melonex.

At the label's top amount of two capsules a day, every ceiling doubles to 1,000, 500 and 333 mg. That is still far below the grams used in blood pressure studies. See the ingredients page for each line's research.

What does the Melonex label not tell you?

The label leaves out the single amounts, a time of day, a named manufacturer, a lot number and any test result.

None of this is unusual for a supplement, but a careful buyer should know the gaps before choosing a pack.

No. 05Front stamps

What do the three stamps on the label mean?

The three stamps are the brand's own wording. They are not test results, and the asterisk sends you to the FDA statement.

The front reads "Heart Support*," "Circulation Support*" and "Natural Formula*." The FDA statement says these words have not been evaluated by the agency (FDA 101: Dietary supplements).

  • “Heart Support*”On the bottle: A heart with a pulse line.

Says what the brand aims at. It is not a result and not a promise about your heart.

  • “Circulation Support*”On the bottle: A circle of arrows.

Points at arginine and citrulline, which research ties to blood vessels at gram doses.

  • “Natural Formula*”On the bottle: A leaf.

Describes the formula's style. Amino acids can still interact with medicines.

*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. (printed on the label)

No. 06Directions

How do the directions on the Melonex label read?

The label says to take one capsule daily with an 8 oz. glass of water, and that you may take up to two capsules daily.

The wording is: "As a dietary supplement, take one (1) capsule daily with an 8 oz. glass of water. May take up to two (2) capsules daily." No time of day is printed. Storage asks for a cool, dry place away from heat, light and humidity.

The caution asks pregnant or nursing mothers, anyone under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition to talk to a physician first. It also says not to use the bottle if the safety seal is damaged or missing, and to keep it away from children.

Keep your medicine

If you take a prescribed medicine, keep taking it as your doctor set it. Arginine and citrulline can add to the effect of some heart and blood pressure drugs, so show the bottle to your pharmacist first (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).

More about the daily routine is on the how to take it page.

No. 0760 capsules

How long do the 60 capsules in a Melonex bottle last?

Melonex 60 capsules last 60 days at one a day, or 30 days at the label's top amount of two a day.

Two bottles cover 120 days, three cover 180 and six cover 360 at one capsule a day. Prices in the seller's order page are $79 a bottle on the 2-bottle kit, $69 on the 3-bottle pack and $49 on the 6-bottle pack (Seller order page). Confirm them at checkout.

Count your supply before you buy. If you plan two a day, each pack lasts half as long. See pricing for the full table.

Melonex is sold as capsules only. The label shows no gummy, drop or liquid form.

No. 08FAQ

Melonex label questions

What is on the Melonex label?

The label shows a Supplement Facts box, directions, storage and caution text, an FDA statement and a distributor line. Up front are the word Melonex, three stamps, 60 CAPSULES and DIETARY SUPPLEMENT. Only the blend total of 500 mg is printed.

What is the serving size of Melonex?

One capsule is one serving. The label lists 60 servings per container, so a full bottle covers 60 days at one capsule a day. The label allows up to two capsules daily, which would make a bottle last 30 days.

How many milligrams of citrulline are in Melonex?

The label does not say. The blend holds 500 mg in total, and citrulline DL-malate is listed first, so it can be at most 500 mg. Because it is a salt, the citrulline itself is less, since the malate takes a share of the weight.

What does a proprietary blend mean on a supplement label?

A proprietary blend is a group of ingredients listed under one total weight. The maker may leave out each single amount, but must list the names from the most to the least by weight (21 CFR 101.36). Melonex lists three in a 500 mg blend.

Does Melonex list a Daily Value?

No. The panel shows the Daily Value as not established, marked with a dagger. For amino acid blends there is no set Daily Value, so no percentage can be printed beside them.

Does the Melonex label name the manufacturer?

No. It says the capsules were made in an FDA registered facility and names Instituto Experience of Lakeland, Florida as the one it was distributed for. That registration is not approval of the product (FDA, Is it really FDA approved?).

What are the other ingredients in Melonex?

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, which forms the capsule shell, plus microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate. These are inactive ingredients used to hold, fill and flow the powder.

Where can I see the whole Melonex label?

The flat label with every line typed out sits in the label section above. Check it against your own bottle, because the printed bottle is the one that counts if the two ever differ.
